ܘܡܝܬ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܘܐܬܟܢܫܘ ܟܘܠܗ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܐܪܩܕܘ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܘܩܒܪܘܗܝ ܒܩܒܪܗ ܒܪܡܬܐ ܘܩܡ ܕܘܝܕ ܘܢܚܬ ܠܡܕܒܪܐ ܕܦܪܢ
dprn lmdbr' wnkhth dwyd wqm brmth' bqbrh wqbrwhy elwhy w'rqdw 'ysryl kwlh w'thknshw shmw'yl wmyth
Samuel died; and all Israel gathered themselves together and mourned for him, and buried him at his house at Ramah. Then David arose and went down to the wilderness of Paran.

ܘܓܒܪܐ ܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܒܡܥܘܢ ܘܥܒܕܗ ܒܟܪܡܠܐ ܘܓܒܪܐ ܪܒ ܗܘܐ ܛܒ ܘܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܥܢܐ ܬܠܬܐ ܐ̈ܠܦܝܢ ܘܐܠܦ ܥ̈ܙܝܢ ܘܗܘܐ ܕܟܕ ܓܐܙ ܥܢܗ ܒܟܪܡܠܐ

There was a man in Maon whose possessions were in Carmel; and the man was very great. He had three thousand sheep and a thousand goats; and he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.

ܘܫܡܗ ܕܓܒܪܐ ܢܒܠ ܘܫܡܗ̇ ܕܐܢܬܬܗ ܐܒܝܓܠ ܘܐܢܬܬܐ ܫܦܝܪ ܗܘܐ ܚܙܘܗ̇ ܘܩܘܒܠܠܗ̇ ܘܓܒܪܐ ܢܒܠ ܩܫܐ ܗܘܐ ܘܒܝܫ ܒܨ̈ܢܥܬܗ ܘܟܠܒ

Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail. This woman was intelligent and had a beautiful face; but the man was surly and evil in his doings. He was of the house of Caleb.

ܘܫܡܥ ܕܘܝܕ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܕܓܐܙ ܢܒܠ ܥܢܗ

David heard in the wilderness that Nabal was shearing his sheep.

ܘܫܕܪ ܕܘܝܕ ܥܣܪ̈ܐ ܥܠܝܡ̈ܝܢ ܘܐܡܪ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܥܠܝܡ̈ܐ ܣܩܘ ܠܟܪܡܠܐ ܘܙܠܘ ܠܘܬ ܢܒܠ ܘܫܐܠܘ ܒܫܠܡܗ ܒܫܡܝ
bshmy bshlmh wsh'lw nbl lwth wzlw lkrml' sqw lelym' dwyd w'mr elymyn esr' dwyd wshdr
David sent ten young men; and David said to the young men, “Go up to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and greet him in my name.

ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܗܟܢܐ ܡ̇ܢ ܕܢܗܘܐ ܚܝ ܘܐܢܬ ܫܠܡ ܘܒܝܬܟ

Tell him, ‘Long life to you! Peace be to you! Peace be to your house! Peace be to all that you have!

ܪ̈ܥܘܬܐ ܕܝܠܟ ܗܘܘ ܥܡܢ ܘܠܐ ܐܗܪܢ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܛܥܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܕܡ ܟܠ ܝܘܡ̈ܬܐ ܕܗܘܘ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ
bmdbr' dhww ywmth' kl mdm lhwn Te' wl' 'nwn 'hrn wl' emn hww dylk rewth'
Now I have heard that you have shearers. Your shepherds have now been with us, and we didn’t harm them. Nothing was missing from them all the time they were in Carmel.

ܫܐܠ ܠܥܒ̈ܕܝܟ ܘܢܚܘܘܢܟ ܘܗܫܐ ܢܫܟܚܘܢ ܥܠܝ̈ܡܐ ܪ̈ܚܡܐ ܒܥܝܢ̈ܝܟ ܡܛܠ ܕܥܠ ܝܘܡܐ ܛܒܐ ܐܬܝܢ ܗܒ ܡܕܡ ܕܨܒܐ ܐܢܬ ܠܥܒ̈ܕܝܟ ܘܠܒܪܟ ܕܘܝܕ
dwyd wlbrk lebdyk 'nth dtsb' mdm hb 'thyn Tb' ywm' del mTl beynyk rkhm' elym' nshkkhwn whsh' wnkhwwnk lebdyk sh'l
Ask your young men, and they will tell you. Therefore let the young men find favor in your eyes, for we come on a good day. Please give whatever comes to your hand to your servants and to your son David.’”

ܘܐܬܘ ܥܠܝܡ̈ܘܗܝ ܕܕܘܝܕ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܢܒܠ ܟܠܗܝܢ ܡ̈ܠܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܒܫܡܗ ܕܕܘܝܕ
ddwyd bshmh hlyn ml' klhyn lnbl w'mrw ddwyd elymwhy w'thw
When David’s young men came, they spoke to Nabal all those words in the name of David, and waited.

ܘܥܢܐ ܢܒܠ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܥܒ̈ܕܘܗܝ ܕܕܘܝܕ ܡܢܘ ܕܘܝܕ ܘܡܢܘ ܒܪܗ ܕܐܝܫܝ ܝܘܡܢܐ ܣܓܝܘ ܥܒ̈ܕܐ ܕܡܪ̈ܝܕܝܢ ܐܢܫ ܡܢ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܗ
mrh qdm mn 'nsh dmrydyn ebd' sgyw ywmn' d'yshy brh wmnw dwyd mnw ddwyd lebdwhy w'mr nbl wen'
Nabal answered David’s servants and said, “Who is David? Who is the son of Jesse? There are many servants who break away from their masters these days.

ܐܣܒ ܠܚܡܝ ܘܡ̈ܝ ܘܢܟܣܬܐ ܕܢܟܣܬ ܠܓܙ̈ܘܙܝ ܘܐܬܠ ܠܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܕܠܐ ܝܕܥ ܐܢܐ ܡܢ ܐܝܡܟܐ ܐܢܘܢ
'nwn 'ymk' mn 'n' yde dl' lgbr' w'thl lgzwzy dnksth wnksth' wmy lkhmy 'sb
Shall I then take my bread, my water, and my meat that I have killed for my shearers, and give it to men who I don’t know where they come from?”

ܘܗܦܟܘ ܥܠܝ̈ܡܘܗܝ ܕܕܘܝܕ ܠܐܘܪܚܗܘܢ ܘܚܘܝܘ ܠܕܘܝܕ ܟܠܗܝܢ ܡ̈ܠܐ ܗܠܝܢ
hlyn ml' klhyn ldwyd wkhwyw l'wrkhhwn ddwyd elymwhy whpkw
So David’s young men turned on their way and went back, and came and told him all these words.

ܘܐܡܪ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܕܥܡܗ ܐܣܘܪܘ ܐܢܫ ܣܝܦܗ ܘܐܣܪܘ ܣܝ̈ܦܝܗܘܢ ܘܐܦ ܕܘܝܕ ܐܣܪ ܣܝܦܗ ܘܣܠܩܘ ܒܬܪ ܕܘܝܕ ܐܝܟ ܐܪ̈ܒܥܡܐܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܘܡܐܬܝܢ ܦܫܘ ܠܘܬ ܡܐ̈ܢܐ
m'n' lwth pshw wm'thyn gbryn 'rbem'' 'yk dwyd bthr wslqw syph 'sr dwyd w'p sypyhwn w'srw syph 'nsh 'swrw demh lgbr' dwyd w'mr
David said to his men, “Every man put on his sword!” Every man put on his sword. David also put on his sword. About four hundred men followed David, and two hundred stayed by the baggage.

ܘܠܐܒܝܓܠ ܐܢܬܬܗ ܕܢܒܠ ܚܘܝ ܛܠܝܐ ܚܕ ܡܢ ܥܠܝܡ̈ܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܫܕܪ ܕܘܝܕ ܐܝ̈ܙܓܕܐ ܡܢ ܡܕܒܪܐ ܠܡܒܪܟܘܬܗ ܠܡܪܢ ܘܡܐܢܬ ܠܗ ܒܗܘܢ
bhwn lh wm'nth lmrn lmbrkwthh mdbr' mn 'yzgd' dwyd shdr w'mr elym' mn khd Tly' khwy dnbl 'nththh wl'bygl
But one of the young men told Abigail, Nabal’s wife, saying, “Behold, David sent messengers out of the wilderness to greet our master; and he insulted them.

ܘܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܛܒܝ̈ܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܢ ܛܒ ܘܠܐ ܐܗܪܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܐܛܥܝܘ ܠܢ ܡܕܡ ܟܠ ܝܘܡ̈ܬܐ ܕܗܠܟܢ ܥܡܗܘܢ ܟܕ ܗܘܝܢ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ
bmdbr' hwyn kd emhwn dhlkn ywmth' kl mdm ln 'Teyw wl' 'hrwn wl' Tb ln hww Tbyn wgbr'
But the men were very good to us, and we were not harmed, and we didn’t miss anything as long as we went with them, when we were in the fields.

ܫܘܪܐ ܗܘܘ ܥܠܝܢ ܐܦ ܒܠܠܝܐ ܘܐܦ ܒܐܝܡܡܐ ܟܠ ܝܘܡ̈ܬܐ ܕܗܘܝܢ ܥܡܗܘܢ ܘܪܥܝܢ ܗܘܝܢ ܥܢܐ
en' hwyn wreyn emhwn dhwyn ywmth' kl b'ymm' w'p blly' 'p elyn hww shwr'
They were a wall to us both by night and by day, all the while we were with them keeping the sheep.

ܗܫܐ ܕܥܝ ܘܚܙܝ ܡܢܐ ܥܒܕܐ ܐܢܬܝ ܡܛܘܠ ܕܓܪܡܬ ܒܝܫܬܐ ܥܠ ܡܪܢ ܘܥܠ ܟܠܗ ܒܝܬܗ ܘܢܒܠ ܠܘܬ ܪ̈ܥܘܬܐ ܗܘܐ
hw' rewth' lwth wnbl bythh klh wel mrn el byshth' dgrmth mTwl 'nthy ebd' mn' wkhzy dey hsh'
Now therefore know and consider what you will do; for evil is determined against our master and against all his house, for he is such a worthless fellow that one can’t speak to him.”

ܘܐܣܬܪܗܒܬ ܐܒܝܓܠ ܘܢܣܒܬ ܡܐܬܝܢ ܕܠܚܡܐ ܘܬܪ̈ܝܢ ܓܪ̈ܒܝܢ ܕܚܡܪܐ ܘܚܡܫ ܥܢܐ ܟܕ ܡܬܩ̈ܢܢ ܘܚܡܫ ܣܐ̈ܝܢ ܩ̈ܠܝܬܐ ܘܡܐܐ ܓܘܒ̈ܢܝܢ ܘܡܐܬܝܢ ܕܒ̈ܠܝܢ ܘܣܡܬ ܥܠ ܚܡܪܐ

Then Abigail hurried and took two hundred loaves of bread, two containers of wine, five sheep ready dressed, five seahs of parched grain, one hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and laid them on donkeys.

ܘܐܡܪܬ ܠܥܠܝ̈ܡܐ ܥܒܪܘ ܩܕܡܝ ܗܐ ܐܢܐ ܒܬܪܟܘܢ ܐܬܝܐ ܐܢܐ ܘܠܢܒܠ ܒܥܠܗ̇ ܠܐ ܚܘܝܬ
khwyth l' belh wlnbl 'n' 'thy' bthrkwn 'n' h' qdmy ebrw lelym' w'mrth
She said to her young men, “Go on before me. Behold, I am coming after you.” But she didn’t tell her husband, Nabal.

ܘܗܝ ܝܬܒܐ ܗܘܬ ܥܠ ܚܡܪܐ ܘܢܚܬܐ ܒܓܢܝܐ ܕܛܘܪܐ ܘܕܘܝܕ ܘܓܒܪ̈ܘܗܝ ܣܠܩܝܢ ܠܐܘܪܥܗ̇ ܘܦܓܥܬ ܒܗܘܢ
bhwn wpgeth l'wreh slqyn wgbrwhy wdwyd dTwr' bgny' wnkhth' khmr' el hwth ythb' why
As she rode on her donkey, and came down hidden by the mountain, behold, David and his men came down toward her, and she met them.

ܘܕܘܝܕ ܐܡܪ ܕܓܠܐܝܬ ܢܛܪܢ ܟܠ ܕܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܘܠܐ ܐܛܥܝܢ ܡܕܡ ܡܢ ܟܠ ܕܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܘܦܪܥܢ ܒܝܫܬܐ ܚܠܦ ܛܒܬܐ
Tbth' khlp byshth' wpren lh hw' d'yth kl mn mdm 'Teyn wl' bmdbr' lh hw' d'yth kl nTrn dgl'yth 'mr wdwyd
Now David had said, “Surely in vain I have kept all that this fellow has in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that pertained to him. He has returned me evil for good.

ܗܟܢܐ ܢܥܒܕ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܥܒܕܗ ܕܘܝܕ ܘܗܟܢܐ ܢܘܣܦ ܠܗ ܐܢ ܢܫܬܒܩ ܡܕܡ ܕܐܝܬ ܠܗ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܨܦܪܐ ܕܡܬܩܢ ܒܐܣܬܐ
b'sth' dmthqn ltspr' edm' lh d'yth mdm nshthbq 'n lh nwsp whkn' dwyd lebdh mry' nebd hkn'
God do so to the enemies of David, and more also, if I leave of all that belongs to him by the morning light so much as one who urinates on a wall.”

ܘܚܙܬ ܐܒܝܓܠ ܠܕܘܝܕ ܘܐܣܬܪܗܒܬ ܘܢܚܬܬ ܡܢ ܚܡܪܐ ܘܢܦܠܬ ܩܕܡ ܕܘܝܕ ܥܠ ܐ̈ܦܝܗ̇ ܘܣܓܕܬ ܥܠ ܐܪܥܐ
're' el wsgdth 'pyh el dwyd qdm wnplth khmr' mn wnkhthth w'sthrhbth ldwyd 'bygl wkhzth
When Abigail saw David, she hurried and got off her donkey, and fell before David on her face and bowed herself to the ground.

ܘܢܦܠܬ ܥܠ ܪ̈ܓܠܘܗܝ ܘܐܡܪܬ ܒܥܝܐ ܐܢܐ ܡܢܟ ܡܪܝ ܥܠܝ ܡܪܝ ܣܟܠܘܬܐ ܬܡܠܠ ܐܡܬܟ ܩܕܡܝܟ ܥܠ ܓܒܪܐ ܗܢܐ ܢܒܠ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܝܟ ܫܡܗ ܗܟܢܐ ܗܘ ܢܒܠ ܫܡܗ ܘܡܨܥܪܢܘܬܗ ܥܡܗ ܘܐܢܐ ܐܡܬܟ ܠܐ ܚܙܝܬ ܠܥ̈ܠܝܡܐ ܕܫܕܪ ܡܪܝ

She fell at his feet and said, “On me, my lord, on me be the blame! Please let your servant speak in your ears. Hear the words of your servant.

ܗܫܐ ܡܪܝ ܚܝ ܗܘ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܚܝܐ ܗܝ ܢܦܫܟ ܕܝܠܟ ܡܪܝ ܕܠܐ ܬܬܩܪܒ ܠܕܡܐ ܘܦܪܩܟ ܡܪܝܐ ܗܫܐ ܡܪܝ ܢܗܘܘܢ ܒ̈ܥܠܕܒܒܝܟ ܐܝܟ ܢܒܠ ܘܕܒܥܝܢ ܠܟ ܒܝܫܬܐ
byshth' lk wdbeyn nbl 'yk beldbbyk nhwwn mry hsh' mry' wprqk ldm' ththqrb dl' mry dylk npshk hy wkhy' mry' hw khy mry hsh'
Now therefore, my lord, as Yahweh lives and as your soul lives, since Yahweh has withheld you from blood guiltiness and from avenging yourself with your own hand, now therefore let your enemies and those who seek evil to my lord be as Nabal.

ܗܫܐ ܒܘܪܟܬܐ ܗܕܐ ܐܝܬܝܬ ܐܡܬܟ ܠܡܪܝ ܒܘܪܟܬܐ ܗܒ ܠܥܠܝ̈ܡܐ ܕܡܗܠܟܝܢ ܠܪܓܠ ܡܪܝ

Now this present which your servant has brought to my lord, let it be given to the young men who follow my lord.

ܘܫܒܘܩ ܣܘܪܚܢܐ ܠܐܡܬܟ ܡܛܠ ܕܡܥܒܕ ܥܒ̇ܕ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܡܪܝ ܒܝܬܐ ܡܗܝܡܢܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܬܟ̈ܬܘܫܘܗܝ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܡܪܝ ܡܬܟܬܫ ܘܒܝܫܬܐ ܠܐ ܐܫܬܟܚܬ ܒܟ ܡܢ ܝܘܡ̈ܝܟ
ywmyk mn bk 'shthkkhth l' wbyshth' mthkthsh mry dmry' dthkthwshwhy mTl mhymn' byth' lmry mry' ebd dmebd mTl l'mthk swrkhn' wshbwq
Please forgive the trespass of your servant. For Yahweh will certainly make my lord a sure house, because my lord fights Yahweh’s battles. Evil will not be found in you all your days.

ܘܒܪܢܫܐ ܣܡ ܠܡܪܕܦܟ ܘܠܡܒܥܐ ܢܦܫܟ ܘܗܘܬ ܢܦܫܗ ܕܡܪܝ ܨܪܝܪܐ ܒܨܪܪܐ ܕܚ̈ܝܐ ܥܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܟ ܘܢܦܫܐ ܕܒܥܠܕܒ̈ܒܝܟ ܢܫܕܝܗ̇ ܡܪܝܐ ܒܓܘ ܟܦܬܐ ܕܩܠܥܐ
dqle' kpth' bgw mry' nshdyh dbeldbbyk wnpsh' 'lhk mry' em dkhy' btsrr' tsryr' dmry npshh whwth npshk wlmbe' lmrdpk sm wbrnsh'
Though men may rise up to pursue you and to seek your soul, yet the soul of my lord will be bound in the bundle of life with Yahweh your God. He will sling out the souls of your enemies as from a sling’s pocket.

ܘܢܗܘܐ ܕܟܕ ܢܥܒܕ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܡܪܝ ܛܒܬܐ ܥܠܝܟ ܘܢܦܩܕܟ ܠܡܕܒܪܢܐ ܥܠ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ
'ysryl el lmdbrn' wnpqdk elyk Tbth' lmry mry' nebd dkd wnhw'
It will come to pass, when Yahweh has done to my lord according to all the good that he has spoken concerning you, and has appointed you prince over Israel,

ܠܐ ܬܗܘܐ ܠܟ ܗܕܐ ܠܙܘܥܬܐ ܘܠܬܘܩܠܬܐ ܕܠܒܟ ܠܡܐܫܕ ܕܡܐ ܕܡܓܢ ܘܟܕ ܢܛܐܒ ܠܟ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܬܕܟܪܝܗ̇ ܠܐܡܬܟ
l'mthk 'thdkryh mry' lk nT'b wkd dmgn dm' lm'shd dlbk wlthwqlth' lzweth' hd' lk thhw' l'
that this shall be no grief to you, nor offense of heart to my lord, either that you have shed blood without cause, or that my lord has avenged himself. When Yahweh has dealt well with my lord, then remember your servant.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܐܒܝܓܠ ܒܪܝܟ ܗܘ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܕܫܕܪܟܝ ܝܘܡܢܐ ܠܐܘܪܥܝ

David said to Abigail, “Blessed is Yahweh, the God of Israel, who sent you today to meet me!

ܒܪܝܟ ܛܥܡܟܝ ܘܒܪܝܟܐ ܐܢܬܝ ܕܟܠܝܬܝܢܝ ܝܘܡܢܐ ܠܡܥܠ ܒܕܡܐ ܘܦܪܩܬܝ ܐ̈ܝܕܝ ܝܘܡܢܐ ܡܢ ܕܡܐ
dm' mn ywmn' 'ydy wprqthy bdm' lmel ywmn' dklythyny 'nthy wbryk' Temky bryk
Blessed is your discretion, and blessed are you, who have kept me today from blood guiltiness, and from avenging myself with my own hand.

ܒܪܡ ܚܝ ܗܘ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܕܟܠܢܝ ܕܠܐ ܐܒܐܫ ܠܟܝ ܐܠܘ ܠܐ ܐܣܬܪܗܒܬܝ ܐܬܝܬܝ ܠܐܘܪܥܝ ܐܢ ܐܫܬܚܪ ܠܢܒܠ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܢܘܗܪܐ ܕܨܦܪܐ ܕܡܬܩܢ ܒܐܣܬܐ

For indeed, as Yahweh the God of Israel lives, who has withheld me from harming you, unless you had hurried and come to meet me, surely there wouldn’t have been left to Nabal by the morning light so much as one who urinates on a wall.”

ܘܢܣܒ ܕܘܝܕ ܡܢ ܐ̈ܝܕܝܗ ܡܕܡ ܕܐܝܬܝܬ ܘܠܗ̇ ܐܡܪ ܣܩܝ ܠܒܝܬܟܝ ܒܫܠܡܐ ܚܙܝ ܕܫܡܥܬ ܒܩܠܟܝ ܘܢܣܒܬ ܒܐ̈ܦܝܟܝ
